In May 1981, Lawrencia Bembenek, an ex-model now a cop in the Milwaukee Police Force, was arrested for the murder of her husband’s ex-wife. The motive: Police claim that Bembenek, accustomed to a lavish lifestyle, committed the crime in order to free her husband from costly mortgage and alimony payments. The conspiracy: Proclaiming her innocence, Lawrencia insists she was framed in a conspiracy and cover-up involving the Milwaukee Police and possibly her husband, a member of their force.
Charged with first degree murder, she was sentenced to life in prison. After serving 8 years, Lawrencia dramatically escaped to a small Canadian town, where she worked as a waitress until her headlined recapture.
