Originally intended as a vehicle for James Dean and to be filmed in colour, it had to be recast after James Dean's untimely death. It proved to be Paul Newman's big break after he landed the roll, because he was a relatively unknown it was decided to cut the movie's budget and film in black and White. See if you can spot a young, uncredited Steve McQueen.
