Diana Ross plays Paulie Cooper, a paranoid schizophrenic who has become a danger both to others and to herself. Once a promising student, Paulie has been institutionalised 43 times in 17 years. Aided by an experimental drug, she fights to free herself from an emotional and physical hell. The new drug allows her to get her demons under control, but there are new struggles at hand. Paulie must fight to regain the trust and love with her daughter she lost during her illness. Displaying both fear and an extraordinary courage, Paulie begins to deal with the past and to plan for her future while never quite knowing if the demons will return.
