THEY DIED WITH THEIR BOOTS ON (IN COLOR).
Starring
Errol Flynn & Olivia DeHaviland.
Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland star in this rip-roaring account of General George Custer, gleefully directed by Raoul Walsh (High Sierra). Upon his arrival at West Point, Custer (Flynn) immediately offends everyone with his brash personality, including Beth (De Havilland), the daughter of an important banker. An irresponsible student, he is nonetheless sent to fight in the Civil War. The need for officers becomes desperate and Custer is soon promoted to a commanding position, distinguishing him-self and his renegade ways. Custer settles down with Beth after the war, but being idle does not suit his flamboyant character. His new battle is now with the Indians, leading to his famed last stand at Little Big Horn. Highlighted by comedic touches and a supporting cast that includes Sydney Greenstreet (Casablanca), Arthur Kennedy (Notorious) and Charley Grapewin (Captains Courageous), They Died With Their Boots On is a truly heroic adventure film.
